We matched the weight of each piston and rod to the lightest piston and rod by drilling or grinding out excess weight. Then we took the weight, which had weights added or subtracted to it, to simulate piston/rod weight, and bolted it to the crankshaft journal to simulate piston/rod weight. We added or subtracted weight to the crankshaft counterweights to achieve a perfect match. When we spun the crank, harmonic balancer, and flexplate as an assembly, we quickly understood where weight needed to be added or subtracted.
